Tell Sen. Hagan to Support Bargaining for Public Safety Officers
Updated
On: May 28, 2010 (03:53:00)
Firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical personnel risk their lives every day to protect the public; they deserve the same right to discuss workplace issues with their employer that the federal government grants to most other workers. The Senate could act to give public safety workers collective bargaining rights as early as THIS WEEK, before the Memorial Day recess. We urgently need you to fire off a letter to Kay Hagan. Tell Senator Kay Hagan to support S.3194 - the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act. Public safety workers in North Carolina and Virginia are forbidden from sitting down with their employer and talking about working conditions. A bill before the United States Senate - S.3194 - would change that by allowing state and local agencies across the country to negotiate with their police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel over working conditions, improving public services, and eliminating wasteful or inefficient practices. When employees and employers can work together to meet the challenges of protecting the public, the people win. Paste the link below into your browser to send your letter to Sen Hagan. http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/tell_hagan_to_support_bargaining

Do you Want to Keep Your Longevity Pay??
Updated
On: May 26, 2010 (03:35:00)
At the June 1 City Council Meeting (5:30pm, 300 W. Washington St) a member of the Professional Fire Fighters of Greensboro Local 947 will be publicly addressing Council regarding the FY2010-11 budget process. This budget has no pay increase for firefighters and also includes a plan to freeze our Longevity pay.
This will be our last opportunity to publicly address our dissatisfaction with these proposals before the City Council meets again on June 15 to vote on accepting the budget. You don?t have to speak-- our presence in strong numbers will show City Council and the City Manager that we are serious about stopping adverse changes to our compensation.
Can't make the meeting? Then fill out the survey regarding the City Budget at http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/Budget/BudgetProcess/budgetcomments.htm.
This survey can be filled out anonymously. Express your concerns about the proposed cut in Longevity and ask your friends and family to do the same.
See the attached flyer--print it off, hang it up in the Station.
